I have received few requests to post some making videos but unfortunately we did not record any as I didn't expect this much of appreciation from family and friends. I will add it the lessons learned :)
So, all I can give is guidance if needed along with the information below.
So, all I can give is guidance if needed along with the information below.
Things Needed : (All the items can be purchased in Home Depot except # 7)
1) Wooden planks to make the outer box – 4 (32 W 20 H) - Measure how wide and high you wanted the mandir to be depending on the location where the mandir will be placed. You can get everything cut to the required measurements by an operator at Home Depot while purchasing them.
2) Pine Carved Rope Moulding – 4 - Number of mouldings will depend on the size of the outer box as these will go as the border to get a complete look.
3) Ornamental Moulding – 2 – This is to make the gopuram part. Please note that these need to be cut with the hand saw to make the ends slant like gopuram.
4) Stair Legs – 2 – These are added for extra décor only. These are also manually cut to the required length.
5) Birch Accent Moulding – 1 – This is also for added décor. No cutting is required.

ReplyDeleteFantastic Shipa !! :) can you please let me know where you got the doors from and how you attached it to the temple?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Haritha. All you have to do is measure the length and divide into half to get the length of each door. You might have to cutoff by few inches so that the doors will fit in properly. You can purchase the entire wood strip and cut it according to the dimensions at Homedepot itself, For attaching, we have used two hinges on each side. Hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteHi Shilpa, You and your husband together put up a beautiful piece. Your devotion shows in your work. You all are very inspiring. If you don't mind, Can you please let me know how much this mandir costed you?
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Thank you so much! The cost was around $230 including the storage we made it later. The price will totally vary depending on the moldings we pick. I will upload a pic with the storage later. Good luck with your carving !
DeleteHi Shilpa, if you dont mind, can you please provide instructions to add the storage shelf?
DeleteHi shilpa,
ReplyDeleteI need help to make gopuram.
How did you attach gopuram. Can I have a picture from top & back of gopuram.
Can you provide some guidelines to make gopuram.
Hi Kirthi, I will attach the picture of the gopuram from the back. We attached the gopuram with two vertical wood blocks as seen in the pic.
ReplyDeleteHi Shilpa,
DeleteDid you glue the Ornamental Moulding one above the other and then glued them to the vertical blocks? or did you nail any of it?
Thanks!
shilpa,
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful mandir you have put together.
How did you manage to build storage within the mandir it self? Also do you mind sharing the link about plan ?
Hi Sravanthi, We didn't initially plan for a storage so we had to make a separate box with the same dimensions and attach them together. So the door for the storage is a door that opens to the bottom with a hinge to the side of the mandir. Wish we had planned it before we started and would have done it in a different way. As of now I do not have any notes return for the plan but as many are requesting the same, I will have something ready soon.
DeleteHi Shilpa, You and your husband together put up a beautiful Work. Please explain about Measurements(HWD).
ReplyDeleteSorry, some how I have missed the message. The one we made is 32 H and 20 W. I got the wood planks from Homedepot and got them trimmed/cut at the store itself. The dimensions will totally depend on how big or small you wanted the mandir to be based upon the location you are going to place.
DeleteHi Shilpa,
ReplyDeleteCan you please provide me the measurements of the wood you have taken. And where did you purchase everything from?
The wood is from Homedepot. I don't exactly remember the dimensions of the plank while purchasing but I got them cut into 32 H and 20 W as that was my requirement. So measure the area where you will be placing the mandir.
Deletecan you please help me with each step you have done like painting you have done.
ReplyDeleteHi shilpa,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the post.
can you please provide us more details, what kin of paint you have used.
How the storage added , what are the items needed for storage
I have used the MINWAX gel stain. You can get that in Homedepot as well.
